Huw Stephens Interview

It was wonderful chatting with Huw Stephens on BBC Radio Cymru C2 about the songs, inspiration, influences, Mid Wales and music for 20 minutes, plus he plays 3 OF MY TRACKS! (Criwch Ddim, Two Wild Birds and I Chwerthin)

Roedd yn wych sgwrsio gyda Huw Stephens am y caneuon, ysbrydoliaeth, dylanwadau, Canolbarth Cymru a cherddoriaeth am 20 munud, yn ogystal chwaraeodd 3 O FY TRACIAU (Criwch Ddim, Two Wild Birds ac I Chwerthin)

New Review by Welsh Playwright Greg Cullen

Just had this Brilliant review from ONE OF WALES’ FOREMOST CONTEMPORARY PLAYWRIGHTS, Greg Cullen.

“I saw Jess Hall perform in Mid Wales on Saturday night, this is seriously good music. Hints of Bat for Lashes, Brecht and Weil, Piaf, Kate Bush and Tom Waits delivered by a voice that drifts between the ethereal and the gutsy. Go if you can!”

– Greg Cullen, (Herald Angel award winner, Edinburugh Festival 2011)

Glas Oren EP Release

Glas Oren EP Release 3 April 2014

The EP was recorded at the idyllic Giant Wafer Studios, Powys, with renowned Cardiff-based producer Charlie Francis (who has worked with bands such as REM, Sweet Baboo, The Noisettes, Future of the Left). It was mastered in Oxford by Tim Turan of Turan Audio.

It will be available to buy at the live gigs and HERE after release on 03/04/2014

I am almost deliriously happy – working with such a pro producer helped turn my sonic ideals into reality. I think my favourite is No.4 ‘I Chwerthin’, but I love them all, especially the Tom Waits-esque percussion on ‘Criwch Ddim’ (which involved a bucket and a radiator), the layered vocals in ‘Two Wild Birds’, the intensity of ‘La La Low’, plus of course, Noel’s impelling drums and double-bass throughout. Hope you enjoy x

I met with my mentor, Alan James (Hold Tight Artist Management) as part of the ACW project. He is a first-rate manager and I’m seriously honoured that he has agreed to mentor me. He represents Mercury Prize Nominee Sam Lee, amongst other impressive distinctions and has a wealth of experience. We discussed WOMEX and worked on plans for 2014 (very exciting).
